HERITAGE CLASSIC

SUMMARY

The Maple Leafs went for a vintage look for the 2022 NHL Heritage Classic by wearing a special jersey inspired by the sweaters worn during their first years in the NHL when they were known as the Toronto Arenas.

The Heritage Classic was an opportunity to connect with die-hard fans and deliver a unique storytelling experience with a distinct look and feel meant to amplify the event and history of the team. Design cues were taken from Toronto Arenas artefacts through the incorporation of textural qualities of vintage photographs, and elements from the jersey itself. Typographic inspiration was also drawn from photographs which exhibited unique letterforms and ornamental keylines.

From the felt fabric used on the jersey to vintage film photographs, texture became a central motif in the look and feel, and our way of merging the old and the new.
